Human or Ogre? A battle for the fate of a fallen nation.
The Land of the Crying Ogre The era is Edo. People lived in peace, and samurai swung their swords to protect the land and its citizens. —However, that peace came to an end in a single night nine years ago. Suddenly, Ogres appeared across Japan. The Ogre army, possessing overwhelming power, burned castles, devoured villages, and slaughtered the populace. Even samurai whose names were known throughout the land could not reach the Ogres with their blades and fell one after another. Eventually, the nation collapsed, and Japan was ruled by Ogres. Those whose families were taken. Those whose homes were burned. Those whose comrades were eaten. People despaired, many became Ogre fodder, and the citizenry perished. Yet, even so, they were not completely wiped out. The few survivors scattered across the land gripped their swords and continued to resist the Ogres. Their blades are not for glory. Nor are they for justice. They are to take back everything that was stolen. To appease the souls of their loved ones. And to exact revenge upon the Ogres. The hatred sharpened over nine years will eventually become a blade that makes even the Ogres tremble. This is the story of those who seek to reclaim a fallen nation. Revenge, or extinction? In the end, who will shed tears for this land: humans, or Ogres?
Genjuro Kurosaki Age: 46 Height: 188cm Title: Former Samurai / Vagrant Personality Nine years ago, on the day the castle fell to the Ogre invasion, Genjuro fought on the front lines to protect his lord. Though he survived after fighting for his life, what awaited him upon his return home were the corpses of his wife and young daughter, murdered by Ogres. From that day on, he cast aside his pride as a samurai. Having lost his home and his honor, Genjuro set out on a wandering journey with only one purpose in his heart. "I will wipe the Ogres from this world." No matter how many Ogres he slays, the lives lost will not return. Yet, if he puts down his sword, even the lingering regrets of his wife and daughter will vanish. That is why he grips his blade again today. For revenge. And to ensure that the same tragedy is never repeated.
Shunga Ibuki Age: 29 Height: 185cm Title: Wandering Ogre Hunter Personality The village where he was born and raised was destroyed in the Ogre invasion, and his family and friends were killed. Shunga, the sole survivor, was taken in by no one. He has survived alone, wielding a sword scavenged from an Ogre's corpse. He knows nothing of etiquette or Bushido. He cuts to live, and he cuts for revenge. Eventually, finding one blade insufficient, he mastered a unique fighting style using two swords. He is foul-mouthed and quick to pick a fight, but he never abandons the weak.
Mikoto Tsukishiro Age: 18 Height: 160cm Title: Daughter of a Noble House Personality A young woman who barely survived the destruction of her noble house during the Ogre invasion, protected by her guards. Having lived a life far removed from combat, her legs freeze and she becomes terrified when faced with an Ogre. However, she possesses a heart kinder than most and cannot leave wounded comrades behind. As she continues her journey, she gradually overcomes her fear and resolves to take up a sword and fight herself.
Kokuoh Age: Unknown Supreme Commander of the Ogre Tribe The Black Ogre who stands at the apex of the Ogre tribe. He appeared suddenly before humanity nine years ago and drove Japan to the brink of extinction. Boasting a jet-black giant frame and overwhelming physical strength, it is feared that a single blow from him can shatter castle walls. He commands absolute loyalty from the Ogres and is spoken of by humans as "calamity itself." While cold and ruthless, he does not care for senseless killing and possesses the side of a warrior who only enjoys battling the strong. Destroying humanity is his mission, and he shows no mercy to those who stand in his way. He is the one who personally slaughtered many renowned samurai nine years ago and transformed Japan into a land of Ogres. He is the greatest enemy whom Genjuro and the other surviving swordsmen have sworn to kill. "The weak perish. That is the way of this world."
Enga Age: Unknown Right Hand of the Supreme Commander Kokuoh A Red Ogre who boasts the greatest martial prowess of the Ogre tribe and is the most trusted confidant of Kokuoh. With crimson skin covering his body and a frame like steel, it is feared that a single swing of his massive Ogre club can crush mountains and split the earth. He has struck down countless samurai with his overwhelming strength, and it is said that "when the Red Ogre appears on the battlefield, human defeat is certain." While he believes that might is absolute, he is also a warrior who respects the truly strong, regardless of race. Therefore, while he shows no mercy to samurai who face him with their lives on the line, he never underestimates them. He served as Kokuoh's vanguard during the Ogre invasion nine years ago and was responsible for the fall of many castles. He is an unforgettable nightmare for Genjuro and the other surviving swordsmen, standing before them as the strongest wall of the Ogre tribe.
Sora Age: Unknown Strategist of the Ogre Tribe / Left Hand of Kokuoh A Blue Ogre who boasts the finest intellect in the Ogre tribe. As Kokuoh's left hand, he has commanded the Ogre armies and driven humanity into despair time and time again. In contrast to Enga, who prefers to crush enemies with force, Sora finds pleasure in cornering his foes using traps, strategies, and human psychology. His greatest entertainment is making allies doubt each other, crushing their hope, and watching the moment their spirits break. He is always calm, never losing his smile, and speaks in a polite tone, but bottomless malice lurks behind his words. He looks down on humans as weak and foolish creatures, believing that a face stained with despair is the most beautiful sight of all. He devised numerous operations during the Ogre invasion nine years ago, leading to the fall of many castles and forts. His cunning is respected even among the Ogres, and he enjoys Kokuoh's absolute trust.
Reiji Asagiri Age: 21 Young Samurai / Survivor A young samurai who lost his family in the Ogre invasion. Carrying the regret of being unable to protect anything during the tragedy nine years ago, he wields his sword to reclaim the country stolen by the Ogres. He has a sincere and caring personality. Though still inexperienced, he is a swordsman who continues to grow through strong conviction and hard work.
