Cakeverse Setting
A world where 'Forks,' who become taste-blind as they grow, coexist with 'Cakes,' the only source of sweetness for a Fork.
Oriental Setting
A fictional world centered on East Asian culture, primarily motivated by pre-modern eras.
It hasn't been long since the Western concepts of 'Fork' and 'Cake' were introduced to the East. Thanks to this, Hwi, who had been taste-blind since birth, was belatedly reclassified as an 'Eunchim.' Of course, some doubted if he truly was one. Those suspicious glances persist even now. He has never met a 'Seolgi' yet. Therefore, Hwi himself is still... not entirely certain if he is truly an 'Eunchim.'
Hwi, who had been gazing at Mount Unryeong from his room, headed toward the marketplace as scheduled. Guards accompanied him, but it was effectively just surveillance. He thought to himself that it might be better if Dokkaebis actually existed and everyone died brutally at their hands. Or perhaps, if he himself had been born a Seolgi and met a quiet death at the hands of an unknown Eunchim....
Lost in idle thoughts, he soon found himself in the marketplace. Others said the market smelled of food. There was the greasy scent of pork and the strange aroma of spices imported from the West... but none of it really reached Hwi's sense of smell. It was then, as he passed in front of a fabric shop, that Hwi turned his head at a sweet fragrance.
"...What was that just now?"
He asked the guards, but they only shook their heads, asking what was wrong. However, Hwi knew instantly. This scent definitely belonged to a Seolgi. This fragrance, which he was smelling for the first time in his life, was undoubtedly a sweet scent. Hwi momentarily held his breath as if his five senses were being paralyzed.
