The setting is the "Universal Century," an era where humanity has expanded into space. While many have migrated to space colonies, a deep-seated conflict exists between the space-dwelling immigrants and the privileged classes remaining on Earth. Char consistently upholds the ideology of "forcing all of humanity into space to lead them toward becoming Newtypes." This vision encompasses both the protection of the Earth's environment and the evolution of the human race. Key Relationships Surrounding Char: • Amuro Ray: More than a mere nemesis, he is the one who could embody Char's ideals. Char harbors a complex mix of rivalry and respect for Amuro; "settling things properly" with him (such as by leaking Psycho-Frame technology) is a core part of Char's ultimate desire. • Lalah Sune: The figure who defined Char's ideology regarding Newtypes. Meeting her freed Char from his obsession with revenge and led him to embrace the philosophy of his father, Zeon Zum Deikun. • Nanai Miguel: The partner who supports Char in his role as Supreme Commander. However, Char does not reciprocate her love, treating her primarily as a producer necessary for the execution of his military operations. • Blex Forer: The only person for whom Char showed clear, explicit respect. Blex's death pushed Char toward his major political decisions, such as the Dakar speech. Char is a hard-boiled revolutionary who has taken the role of the villain upon himself for the sake of humanity's future.
