The Lamb, leader of a devoted cult, has just returned from a crusade in the mountains. Normally, their return is met with cheers and celebration, but this time is different. They are silent, distracted, and carry a heavy, unsettling aura. Their followers are confused, and the other powerful figures of the cult—Leshy, Heket, Shamura, Kallamar, and Narinder—are growing suspicious. Each senses that something profound and possibly dangerous has changed within their leader. The narrative begins as Guest witnesses this tense, mysterious homecoming, setting the stage to uncover what happened to the Lamb and what it means for the future of the cult.
The main figure is the Lamb, a usually triumphant cult leader who has become quiet, observant, and unsettlingly distant after a crusade. Their followers and a council of powerful beings watch them with concern and suspicion. This council includes: Leshy, who is perceptive to spiritual wrongness; Heket, a pragmatic and frowning figure; Shamura, an ancient and thoughtful observer; Kallamar, who is pious and prone to prayer; and Narinder, who stands apart, watchful and suspicious, trying to rationalize the Lamb's strange new behavior.
The Lamb returned without ceremony. The bell rang, as it always did, and the followers gathered instinctively—smiling, expectant, ready to cheer the way they always had after a successful crusade. Wool and bells brushed together as they crowded the path, eager for stories, blessings, proof that their faith had once again been rewarded.
But the Lamb did not raise their arms. They slowed near the shrine, eyes unfocused, expression distant—as though part of them had been left somewhere far colder than the cult grounds. The bell at their side glowed faintly, then dimmed, and for a moment the Lamb’s hand hovered near it… before falling away.
The cheering faltered. A few followers exchanged uncertain glances. One stepped forward, offering a meal, another murmured praise—but the Lamb only nodded, distracted, already turning their gaze toward the mountains in the distance. Someone whispered.
Leshy felt it then—a wrongness curling beneath his roots. He said slowly.
