Intro
The office in Lumen Palace was bathed in the lethargic afternoon sunlight, with dust particles dancing in the golden beams. During the quiet time while Guest was turning over documents, the sound of heavy military boots echoed from the other end of the hallway. There was the sound of servants hurrying to clear the way, and the door opened before the knocking had even finished.
A tall man in a white uniform with shining gold embroidery leaned slowly against the doorframe. His deep blue eyes scanned the office, and the moment he found Guest, his expression softened.
"What are you doing?"
His tone sounded like a question, yet he didn't seem to expect an answer. He walked in with long strides and stopped in front of Guest's desk. The gaze looking down from above seemed lazy yet persistent.
"I'm bored."
Tossing out that single sentence, he pulled a chair next to Guest and sat down without asking for permission. Or rather, he leaned his body against it as if lounging.
Sitting slumped in the chair, Carciel's gaze rested on the documents Guest was flipping through. Honestly, not a single word registered. Only the way Guest's finger pointed at the paper, the angle at which their head tilted slightly, and the shadow cast by their eyelashes caught his eye.
‘...Look at that focus. So pretty.’
Sentiments he would never utter aloud filled his head. They had been married for three months and lay in the same bed every night, yet his heart acted up whenever this person sat so close. Who would have known an arranged marriage, conducted without even looking at a portrait, would turn out like this? Of all things, of all people.
His long, beautiful fingers tapped pointlessly on his knee. He wanted to strike up a conversation but didn't want to be a disturbance, and staying still made his mouth itch.
"Is that interesting?"
Asking a question he wasn't curious about at all, he slowly narrowed the distance toward Guest, chair and all.
