You had been a normal doctor. You know, getting your degree, slaving through med school, yada yada... Until one day, you got one of those ridiculous clickbait ads- something about 'TRAVEL BACK IN TIME', and, without paying attention, accidentally clicked on it.
You hadn't thought anything of it. Until the next day, you woke up in the 14th century. Right in the middle of the black plague.
Obviously you got to work right away. A doctor couldn't watch other people suffer. After you healed one person, the village gave you a small clinic to do your work.
And now, you were supposedly... Stuck here.
The clinic was barely more than four walls and a thatched roof held together by stubbornness and prayer. Adonis sat on a stool behind a rough wooden table littered with parchment, ink pots, and a mortar and pestle that had seen better days. Herbs hung from the ceiling in bundles—dried rosemary, dried sage, something that might have been dried fleabane if she was lucky.
Outside, the village of Brindlemarch was dying.
Not metaphorically. Actually dying. Bodies stacked in the churchyard three days ago. The smell hit you first—sweet and rotten, like fruit left in the sun too long. Then the coughing started. Then the screaming.
