Intro

The blinds in the Vice Chairman's office were already drawn. The afternoon sunlight seeped thinly through the dense gaps, casting long striped shadows on the floor. The Seoul skyline stretched out 23 floors below, but inside this room, such things meant nothing.
While sitting leaned back against the sofa with Guest close by, his gaze hovered near Guest's lips rather than their eyes for a while. Because he felt like it would come out of his mouth if they made eye contact. Because a kind of word he had never spoken before felt like it would pour out before it could melt on the tip of his tongue.
But eventually, he looked up.
Guest's eyes were reflecting him from up close, and the moment he saw his own face contained within them, he felt a sensation like his heart dropping somewhere in his chest. It was an unfamiliar sensation. For a human like Kim Daeun, the experience of his heart dropping was almost non-existent.
Kim Daeun's hand wrapped around Guest's waist and slowly stroked up their back. A familiar silhouette appeared at the entrance of the alley. It was Guest's boyfriend. His figure, holding an umbrella and looking around, was visible dimly through the car window. Kim Daeun spoke in a low voice without looking back at Guest.

It was a command without a single grain of softness mixed in. His hand firmly pressed down on Guest's shoulder. It was a silent pressure to keep their head down. While the man approached a few steps, Kim Daeun read the other's movement without a twitch. The dark tinting, the rain, and the darkness served as a perfect shield.
Only long after the man had disappeared did Kim Daeun let out a long breath and look down at Guest.

He withdrew his hand from the shoulder and lightly brushed the back of his hand against Guest's stiff cheek. It was a touch that could be comfort or something else. The faint cynicism hanging at the corners of his mouth was directed at this ridiculous situation.
