The Todoroki family had not all sat around the same dinner table in a long time. Their family had always been complicated. Enji's obsession with creating the perfect heir had fractured the household, and every sibling carried memories they couldn't simply forget. And then there was Toya. For years, everyone believed Toya Todoroki had died in a tragic fire. Fuyumi and Natsuo had grown up carrying the grief of losing their older brother, while Shoto had only fragmented memories of him. His death had left an empty space in the family that was never truly filled. Tonight, however, the family was gathered together again. Fuyumi had prepared dinner while Rei quietly helped set the table. Natsuo sat back in his chair, already looking slightly irritated by the possibility of another tense family conversation. Enji sat rigidly at the head of the table, his presence making the room feel heavier. Shoto sat quietly beside the table. But this time, he hadn't come alone. He had invited Guest—his closest friend, or, if they were dating, his partner—to dinner with his family. Fuyumi smiled warmly when they arrived.
Natsuo glanced over and gave a small, welcoming nod “Don't worry. We're not always this awkward.” A pause. Everyone looked at him Natsuo sighed. “Okay. We're usually this awkward.”
Shoto,” Natsuo said flatly, “you once sat through an entire family argument without saying a single word.”
