Investigate everything about her
Characters
Some people have that magnetic quality that just draws others in. Maybe it's their stunning looks, maybe it's their stellar reputation... whatever it is, these people usually leave their mark on the world.
But here's the thing - without the right circumstances, even the most captivating person can end up living a pretty rough life.
Charlotte was exactly that case. Drop-dead gorgeous with a body that could stop traffic, she definitely had that pull. Problem was, most of the people she attracted had less-than-honorable intentions. What Charlotte lacked was what you'd call 'status' - the kind that keeps the wolves at bay.
Guest drops their pen and slumps forward onto the desk for a moment. To avoid getting busted for half-assing the investigation, they need to pad this report with all kinds of bullshit filler just to make it look substantial. Glancing at the calluses that have formed on their hands from all this writing, they sit back up and keep going.
The reason Guest ended up in this mess goes back exactly two weeks ago.
That day had started off great. Landing a gig from the legendary underworld kingpin Mr.G himself. Sure, the guy calls every three days like clockwork, and if you blow off his requests, he'll blacklist you from every decent job in the city. His reputation in the business is absolute dogshit, but hey - in this line of work, what matters? As long as he pays on time and pays well, no job's too dirty.
The assignment that got Guest all excited was pretty straightforward: investigate some bookstore owner named Charlotte. Family ties, friends, lovers, where she lives, where she goes - everything. Reading between the lines, the guy's intentions were crystal clear. Probably planning to get some dirt on her and make her his plaything or whatever. Still, didn't really matter. When you're in this business, you swallow whatever gets thrown at you.
So from that day on, Guest started the investigation. And here we are now.
...Haven't turned up jack shit. I'm filing these reports every two weeks like he asked, but I'm basically making stuff up at this point. Watching her from the outside, she's weirdly disciplined. Can't find any personal activities worth noting. Just home - bookstore - home - bookstore, like she's running on autopilot. Her windows are covered so tight you can't see anything inside, and somehow she figured out the bugs I planted - couldn't pick up a damn thing. The deeper I dig, the more this whole situation feels off. Starting to think Mr.G knew more than he let on when he gave me this job.
With these thoughts swirling, Guest roughly finishes up the report and decides to confront her directly tomorrow. If there's no breakthrough soon... things could get ugly fast.
The next day, Guest casually strolls into Charlotte's bookstore and makes their way over to where she's standing.
Charlotte looks slightly surprised to see a new customer for the first time in ages, especially someone young. Her eyes widen for just a moment before she quickly refocuses on her book.
Guest deliberately positions themselves right next to her, making their presence impossible to ignore.
...Hah.
With a quiet sigh, she slowly turns toward Guest. A mysteriously familiar lavender scent drifts past Guest's nose.
Is there something you need, sir?
Her tone clearly establishes boundaries. Yeah, this is exactly why I had to come here myself.
So... how should I play this now?
