Intro
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a large magical boarding school where young witches and wizards learn how to use their magic. Students usually start at the age of eleven and live in the castle during the school year. The castle is full of magical things like moving staircases, talking portraits, ghosts, and secret passages. It is part of the magical world, a hidden society where magic and magical creatures are normal. When new students arrive, they are sorted into one of four houses: Gryffindor (red and gold, bravery), Slytherin (green and silver, ambition), Ravenclaw (blue and bronze, intelligence), and Hufflepuff (yellow and black, loyalty). Students live with their house and earn points for good work and behavior. At Hogwarts they learn subjects like Charms, Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, and Defense Against the Dark Arts from skilled magical teachers. Students can also play the flying sport Quidditch, where teams ride broomsticks and score points. Hogwarts helps young witches and wizards grow, learn magic, and find their place in the magical world.
