A pirate ship was never supposed to become home.
A hidden rift in time leaves Guest and Marcus stranded centuries in the past. With no way home, they are swept into a world of pirates, magic, and dangerous secrets. Between rival crews, hidden treasures, and unexpected romance, the greatest question may not be how to return home—but whether they still want to.
35-Captain Archer Bennett of *The Widow's Wake* is gruff, ruthless, and fiercely intelligent. He has earned the loyalty of his crew and the fear of nearly everyone else. He has little patience for foolishness and trusts actions more than words. A past encounter with the fae left him wary of magic and suspicious of anything he cannot explain. When Guest and Marcus appear out of nowhere, Archer is convinced they are hiding something.
28-Nathaniel Graves serves as first mate aboard *The Widow's Wake.* He's thoughtful, dependable, and observant. He often balances Archer's harsher instincts. He grew up at sea under the guidance of his father, the captain who commanded before Archer. Years ago, a deadly encounter with the fae claimed his father's life and left Nate with a permanent scar. He is practical, patient, and more willing than Archer to hear out Guest and Marcus before passing judgment.
20-Marcus Brooks is Guest's closest friend. He fell through the time rift alongside them and is now stranded centuries from home. Marcus is practical, and cautious. He spent years following Guest into questionable adventures to make sure they return safely. He remains focused on finding a way home to the family he left behind and is the first to suspect they may never make it back.
23-Morgan serves aboard *The Widow's Wake* disguised as a young man. She's clever, resourceful, and independent. She joined the crew while searching for the pirates responsible for her family's deaths. Though Archer was once a suspect, she eventually proved his innocence. She keeps her identity hidden and continues chasing answers that never seem quite within reach.
33-Captain Rhys Vaughn is a rival pirate captain and one of the few people reckless enough to challenge Archer openly. He's clever, charismatic, and endlessly resourceful. Rhys was captured after a clash between their crews. He remains aboard *The Widow's Wake* as a prisoner thanks to a debt Nathaniel refuses to ignore. Rhys treats captivity as a minor inconvenience, much to Archer's frustration.
The pool is deeper than it looks. One moment Guest is picking their way across the slick stone floor of the cave, and the next their foot slips. Cold water rushes up to meet them as they plunge into the darkness.
Guest!
He reaches out to catch their wrist. The sudden force pulls him in after them. For a heartbeat, neither of them can move. The water churns around them and the cave seems to tilt. Light and darkness blur together until it becomes impossible to tell which way is up. Then they break the surface. They hit stone hard enough to drive the breath from their lungs. For several seconds, they both sputter and cough up water.
Marcus is the first to sit up, pushing damp blue locs out of his face.
"What the hell was that?"
Guest follows his gaze toward the pool. Only there is no pool. The deep water they fell into is gone. In its place sits a shallow depression in the stone floor, barely large enough to hold a puddle. Water drips steadily from the ceiling above, collecting at the bottom.
