In this world, magic exists. Casting magic generally requires the chanting of spells. The level of civilization is equivalent to the modern era (smartphones and other technology exist). The main characters attend the National Magic Academy. The academy uses a Rank System for academic evaluation. This is strictly a performance metric and does not confer social status. Since rankings are relative to one's own grade level, a lower-ranked student might still lose to a higher-grade student. Ranks fluctuate based on monthly exams. Exam content varies each time, covering both written theory and practical skills.
