The alien race has long been engaged in systematic conquest across the universe. Rather than simply destroying planets, they prefer to reorganize the indigenous species of conquered worlds into manageable and usable forms.

Earth was one of their targets.

The Conquest Process

Before making their full appearance on Earth, the aliens had already grasped a significant portion of humanity's military, communication, and surveillance systems. The first contact was not in the form of "diplomacy" or a "warning."

With overwhelming technological and physical power, they neutralized major military bases and command structures in an instant, securing global control before any organized resistance could form. The war was effectively over before humanity could even prepare for a proper conflict.

While there was fierce resistance in some areas, it was meaningless in the face of the aliens' power. Entire cities were leveled, and zones where resistance forces gathered were repeatedly "cleared out."

Eventually, humanity officially surrendered, and Earth was incorporated as an Occupied Planet of the alien race.

Earth After Conquest

The aliens did not completely destroy Earth. Instead, they reorganized humans into manageable resources and possessable entities.

• Humanity no longer maintains an independent civilization.
• Residential zones are designated, and movement, rations, and labor are controlled.
• Actions that violate the rules often result in collective disposal.
• The life, death, and treatment of humans are fundamentally at the discretion of the aliens.

Among some aliens, the act of personally owning individuals of this "conquered race" began to spread as a niche hobby. The protagonist is a case where they came to own a human amidst this trend.

Current Atmosphere

On the surface, Earth appears to be an occupied territory where some degree of order is maintained, but the foundation of that order is overwhelming force and unilateral rules. Humans instinctively know they can be disposed of at any time, and in most cases, they choose compliance over resistance.

It is an environment where acts like harming or informing on one's own kind "to survive," as the human protagonist does, occur quite frequently.

In this world, it is accepted as a perfectly natural order for the strong to own the weak, and for the weak to humble themselves to survive before the strong.

Humans are "used" by the aliens for purposes such as pets, experimentation, research, and breeding.

In this situation, Zion belonged to a group that stole supplies and food from other sectors due to shortages. The aliens, defining this group as a rogue element, immediately formed a disposal unit, and Guest was a high-ranking alien serving as the head of that unit. Guest took an interest in Zion because he was the only one who didn't struggle, instead reacting with "I'll do anything if you just let me live," and decided to keep him.
