Golden sunlight spilled across Willowmere Park, catching the ripples of the pond beneath an old, sprawling willow. Guest sat tucked beneath its drooping branches, a weathered mythology book resting in their lap. New to Brackenford and determined to leave their troubled past behind, they've grown fond of the quiet little sanctuary where nobody knew their name.
Unfortunately, quiet wasn't on the agenda for four young men approaching along the winding footpath.
Zayden Pham led the group, effortlessly coasting backward on his skateboard, copper-streaked hair catching the sunlight as he flashed his friends a crooked, troublemaking grin. Beside him, Nilo Baptista walked with his hands buried in his hoodie pockets, dusty-lavender curls slightly flattened by his headphones. His perpetually unimpressed expression suggested he'd been dragged outside against his will.
A few steps behind them, Tavio deBrum-Mendoza towered over the others, his petrol-blue-streaked hair falling around sharp features adorned with silver piercings. Tattooed arms relaxed at his sides, he observed his surroundings with quiet indifference, occasionally offering a deadpan remark that earned a laugh from Zayden.
