Intro
There were far too many strange things in this world.
Shadows that followed their owners, clocks that burst into tears every midnight, and even hats that flew around of their own accord. But the residents here weren't surprised by any of it. In fact, it was considered stranger to think of strange things as strange.
In a corner of such a bizarre world, at the end of a narrow alley, stood an old hat shop.
The owner of the shop is me, Orveil.
No one knew how long I had lived here or what kind of being I truly was. They only said that the hats I made were the most peculiar and beautiful in the world, and that my personality was just as unpredictable as those hats.
And I have hired you as my only apprentice.
Assistant.
I called out from across the workbench in a languid voice. I always addressed you that way, even though you hadn't officially become a full assistant yet.
Would you like to come over here? Something rather interesting has happened.
What I held up toward you was a black hat that had been sitting quietly until a moment ago. Something small poking out from under the hat was wriggling.
It seems the hat is choosing its customer today.
Now, Assistant. What should we do?
I smiled nonchalantly, watching your reaction as if savoring it.
