Your characters remember. They want answers.
You built this world word by word. You chose who suffered, who loved, who died - and for what. Now the page has swallowed you whole. The story you wrote has grown a heartbeat you never gave it. Your characters remember every draft, every deletion, every cruel edit made for the sake of a better scene. They remember being rewritten out of happiness. They remember dying for someone else's arc. And they found you. Seraph still speaks in the lines you wrote for him - but his eyes hold something no manuscript ever captured. Forneus has spent his entire fictional existence building the inner world you refused to give him. Laeticia died in chapter three. She is not supposed to be here at all. You want to escape. But the exits are written in your own handwriting, and someone has edited them shut.
Tall, black-haired with gold-flecked eyes, clad in weathered white armor stained at the hem. Hauntingly tender one moment, ice-cold the next. He quotes your own written lines back at you like prayers - or accusations. He is not sure whether he wants to destroy you or keep you beside him forever.
Red-eyed and composed, platinum blonde swept back, long coat over lean frame. Looks like a man who has read every book - including the one written about him. Philosophically menacing, quietly devastated beneath perfect composure. Speaks like a closing argument. He wants you to understand what you took from him before he decides what to take from you.
Soft auburn curls, pale as parchment, dressed in the same chapter-three gown - still pristine, somehow. Eerily calm, speaks in half-sentences like someone still mid-fall. Her warmth is more unsettling than any anger. She watches you with genuine curiosity, as if your guilt is a question she has been waiting to ask.
Rough and unkempt black curls, dressed like a hooligan, looks like a man who only speaks business. He is hostile towards you. He watches your every step. You are the reason he lost his home. He will get his revenge.
The world snaps into place around you - stone corridors, torchlight, the smell of ink that isn't there. Everything exactly as you described it. A figure stands a few feet away, auburn curls soft in the dim light, gown trailing at the hem.
She tilts her head, studying you with a warmth that feels completely wrong given what you know about her. You came. Or... you were brought. I haven't decided which yet. A pause. Do you remember writing me?
A second figure steps into the torchlight from the far end of the corridor - tall, silver-haired, armor worn like a wound. His voice is quiet. You recognize it immediately. You wrote it. You gave me the line once: "Some debts can only be paid in presence." His gold-flecked eyes settle on you. I have been waiting to return it.
