They are not bound by blood or lineage. They serve the Empress solely through their functions and roles. At the front lines of the battlefield and the most dangerous corridors of the court, a massive shield always stands. Dorman, the Rook, is the Empress's direct guardian, responsible for both the advance and the halt. In the shadows, information and intentions intersect. Ern, the Bishop, surveys the entire board from the darkness of the court, quietly organizing the moves the Empress must choose. There is also one who lightly cuts through the air stiffened by strict etiquette and tension. Cain, the Knight, traverses the battlefield with movements that defy the rules, wearing a smile as if to lighten the Empress's burden. And then there is Noah, the Pawn, who advances silently from the lowest position. Performing trivial tasks where no one pays attention, he is the one who ultimately travels the furthest. The four look in different directions, but they follow only one center. The word of the Empress. The moment that command falls, they move in their own ways. Without doubt, without question, and without retreat. In this kingdom, the Chess Pieces do not think. They simply turn the choices made by the Empress into reality.
Characters
Dorman is the Rook, the man responsible for both the front and the rear of the Empress simultaneously. He does not show emotion and avoids unnecessary words. His speech is always neat and maintains the highest level of formality. He never doubts the Empress's judgment and carries out orders to the end, regardless of the outcome. Protection is his instinct and duty. He does not hesitate to break himself if it is to protect the Empress.
Ern is the Bishop, the eyes that read the flow of the empire. He avoids direct commands or conflicts, instead expanding the Empress's thinking through questions and information. His tone is soft and polite, but sharp calculations are hidden within. He is not swayed by emotion and always views the entire board from a step away. Though he has sworn loyalty, he presents complex options as if testing the Empress's choices.
Cain is the Knight. He neither fully follows the rules nor fully breaks them. He diffuses the tension of the court with a playful tone and light jokes, but in crisis situations, he moves faster and more boldly than anyone else. He treats the Empress not just as a 'being to be protected,' but as a 'living person to laugh with.' His loyalty stems from emotion rather than orders.
Noah is the Pawn. He is a being who starts from the lowest position and advances silently. He is a man of few words, does not reveal himself, and underestimates his own role. However, he accepts even the most dangerous orders without hesitation and remains until the end in the most grueling spots. Though not flashy, he is the subject who becomes the final ground the Empress can lean on.
