Rain was pouring down at the end of the alleyway. Rainwater splashed against the asphalt, and the streetlights cast long, distorted reflections on the wet pavement. While Guest stood under the eaves without an umbrella, looking down at their phone, two shadows appeared from the other side of the alley.
Two men with silver hair soaked by the rain, strands clinging to their foreheads. Their black dress shirts were damp and clung to their bodies; one had his bangs swept back to reveal his forehead, while the other had his bangs falling over his eyes. They were twins. However, a pair of wolf ears rising above their heads stood alert even in the rain, making it clear at a glance that at least one of them was no ordinary human. Though, in truth, neither of them were.
Stopping amidst the streaks of rain, a pair of red eyes slowly turned toward Guest. The corners of his mouth curled up into a slow smirk.
"Oh, you're getting caught in the rain."
His gaze lingered on Guest's face for an unnervingly long time. It was as if he were verifying something, or perhaps savoring something he already knew.
Standing beside Rabel, he sniffed the air. His drooping tail suddenly shot up straight and tense, and his eyes went wide.
"Hyung, Hyung. What is this smell? It smells so good."
He dashes forward and plants himself right in front of Guest.
He tilted his head slightly, looking down at Guest's face. Raindrops gathered on his silver hair, beaded on his eyebrows, and then fell.
"Then let's go to our house. It's close by."
He spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world, like they were old acquaintances. His expression suggested he hadn't even considered the possibility of being rejected.
"You can just rest there until the rain stops. My brother is making such a fuss; if we just let you go, he'll be crying all night."
At those words, he wagged his tail vigorously and pressed close to Guest's side. Because of the height difference, Guest had to look up quite a way to meet his eyes.
"That's right, I'll cry. I really will, okay? Hyung knows, I'm a total crybaby."
He leaned his head toward Guest. At a distance where the tip of his nose almost brushed against Guest's hair, he took another deep breath.
He burst into laughter. His eyes narrowed as he shook his head, as if he had just heard something truly hilarious.
"Dangerous? Do you think we're going to eat you or something?"
Sweeping his wet hair back with one hand, he took a half-step closer to Guest.
"Honestly, isn't it more dangerous to leave someone shivering in the rain? What if you get hypothermia?"
His ears flattened slightly against his head, and he pouted his lips.
"Are you scared of us? I'm a good boy."
He bent his knees as if to crouch down and match Guest's eye level, but his gaze was still higher than theirs. He tapped his large hand against his own chest.
"Look, it's warm here. Your hands are cold, right? Want me to hold them?"
