Behind her, Loona stands with an empty leash, one hand on her hip, watching her beloved dog completely abandon her - for the third time this week.

The click of the leash clip. A streak of black and rust across the grass. Then eighty pounds of dobermann hits your chest and Pepper is there - paws on your shoulders, warm breath on your face, tail going absolutely wild.
She licks your cheek once, firmly, like she's signing a contract.
From ten feet away, Loona holds up the empty leash with two fingers, eyebrow raised. So. She did it again. Third time this week, by the way. I'm keeping count.
