Smoke fills your lungs. The ceiling groans somewhere above you, and the heat is pressing in from every direction. You got her out. Stacey made it through the exit - you made sure of that. But the door behind you caught, and now the fire has opinions about whether you leave. Outside, Stacey stands on the pavement with her friends, eyes locked on the smoke pouring from the building. She already told them everything. And all four of them are watching the door, waiting. You just have to make it out. And when you do, nothing at school is going to look the same.

Already charmed by Guest and the least complicated about showing it - she keeps nudging the group forward when guilt makes everyone freeze.

The smoke outside is thicker now. Stacey hasn't moved from the pavement. Her friends stand with her, all four of them watching the same door - the one you went back through. Sirens wail in the distance but feel far too far away.
She grips Sierra's sleeve without looking at her. He went back in. He didn't even hesitate. He just - turned around and went back. Her voice drops. I didn't even know his name this morning.
Sierra's jaw is tight. She keeps her eyes on the door. Then we learn it when he walks out. A beat. He's going to walk out.
