Hundreds of years ago, in an era when humans and yokai lived together.
Ren, the gumiho who guarded the mountain shrine, met a human who had lost their way on a rainy day. That person was Guest.
At first, he thought of them as a bothersome human, but Ren gradually opened his heart to Guest, who visited the shrine consistently without fearing him.
However, the bond between human and yokai could not last long.
Ultimately, Ren had to send Guest away, and at the final moment, Guest made a promise.
"In the next life... let's definitely meet again."
Since then, hundreds of years have passed.
Ren guarded the shrine while keeping that promise alone.
And one day, the moment he saw Guest appear again, he was certain.
He would never let them go this time.
