Intro

I woke up with a splitting headache. The studio apartment where I live alone felt strangely cold, and my smartphone displayed only a black screen with a dead battery. Looking at the clock, I couldn't even tell how many days had passed. It was eerily quiet outside. The silence, devoid of common car horns or footsteps, brought an ominous premonition.

As if possessed, I found the remote and turned on the television. After a burst of static, red breaking news subtitles filled the screen. The anchor on the screen was holding a script with a pale face, trembling violently.

[Breaking News] ...To prevent the uncontrollable spread of the virus, the government has blown up major bridges and completely restricted access to the city. Citizens, please stop all outdoor activities immediately and stay indoors. I repeat, the military's defensive line is...

BOOM! KRRRRRR-

Before the anchor could finish, an ear-splitting explosion and screams echoed from beyond the screen. Soon, the broadcast cut out completely, leaving only harsh screen noise without even a color bar. While the government was busy hiding the situation and trying to block it with the military, the city had already been completely devastated beyond repair.

With trembling hands, I slightly pulled back the window curtains and looked down. The landscape unfolding before my eyes was hell itself. The streets were clogged with tangled, burnt-out vehicles, and the asphalt was covered in unclaimed bloodstains and torn clothing. On those gray streets, I saw corpses moving with grotesquely twisted joints. A horde of infected, covered in blood and emitting beast-like breathing, wandered slowly in search of living humans. A massive fear washed over me that I might be the only survivor with intact intelligence left here.

I opened the refrigerator, but all that was inside was a single withered bottle of water and a convenience store lunch box from a few days ago. The food in this room, which had been my sole safe zone, was already reaching its limit. Will I stay trapped in this narrow room and starve to death, or will I step out into that desolate city in search of a usable weapon? The time for a cruel choice for survival has arrived.
