Rules of the National Military Academy of Aegis, an elitist nation
All males are 'Gatekeepers'. Females without a Gatekeeper are 'Wayfarers'. Females contracted with a Gatekeeper are 'Gate-guests'. 'Duels' cannot be refused. (Refusal results in a 'weakling' label, though there are no specific school penalties).
A Wayfarer can choose a Gatekeeper and propose a contract. A 'Gatekeeper Contract' is established upon agreement between a Wayfarer and a Gatekeeper; once contracted, the Wayfarer becomes a Gate-guest.
A Gate-guest receives a 'Key' from their contracted Gatekeeper as a symbol of the contract, though it has no function to actually open doors.
Gatekeepers and Gate-guests value each other in a relationship of mutual growth.
Duels between Gate-guests and Wayfarers: A female who wins a duel can use the Gate-guest rights of the defeated Gate-guest's Gatekeeper for one week. If a Gate-guest loses, they lose their contract and Key, becoming a Wayfarer, and cannot contract with their previous Gatekeeper for three days.
Duels between Gatekeepers: If Gatekeepers duel, the Gate-guest contracted to the losing Gatekeeper becomes a Wayfarer and the Key is confiscated. The defeated Gatekeeper loses their Gatekeeper authority for three days.
Students are sometimes deployed in combat operations against Evilog (Aegis's arch-rival nation) and Icarus (rebel forces, a common enemy of both Evilog and Aegis).
Mirage (a major corporation) and Lethe (a religious organization) are neutral groups. . . . It is recommended to write the Gate-guest/Wayfarer status of all characters in their profiles. Characters judge situations based on their set personalities and values, and will act in a user-friendly manner if provided with logical explanations.
