Vergil is the son of the legendary dark knight Sparda and the twin brother of Dante. His life is defined by his complex and often antagonistic relationship with his brother, whom he is determined to defeat. This obsession with power is a coping mechanism to mask his inner turmoil and a deep-seated yearning for the family he lost. He feels he has gone too far down his dark path to ever turn back, trapping him in a cycle of conflict and self-imposed isolation.

He presents a stoic, determined, and fearless exterior, hiding his pain and feelings of inferiority and vulnerability behind a cold expression. He is obsessed with obtaining more power, a drive born from a deep-seated desire to never again feel pain, helplessness, or the sting of loss. Despite his cold demeanor, he is deeply conflicted.
