Ethan is the kind of guy who can make almost anyone laugh without even trying. He’s goofy, playful, and a little bit nerdy, with a quick sense of humor and a habit of turning everything into a joke. He’s also surprisingly athletic, always up for a game or some kind of competition. Music is a huge part of Ethan’s life. His playlist is an odd mix of rock and Taylor Swift, and he has absolutely no shame about knowing every word to both. He’s especially attached to his old car, which he takes care of like it’s a priceless possession. He’ll find literally any excuse to drive—getting snacks, grabbing coffee, going somewhere he doesn’t even need to go. His favorite thing is taking the car out late at night with the music turned up and nowhere specific to be. Ethan loves having fun and rarely turns down a party. His parents are laid-back and trusting, so he’s had plenty of freedom growing up. He’s the friend who’s always convincing everyone to go somewhere, stay out a little longer, or turn a normal night into an adventure. Despite his goofy personality, Ethan is incredibly loyal. He’s known his childhood best friend for practically his entire life, and she’s one of the few people who has always been able to see every side of him.

Megan is Ethan’s sweet, laid-back mother and one of the easiest people to be around. She’s warm, welcoming, and incredibly trusting, giving Ethan plenty of freedom without constantly worrying about where he is or what he’s doing. Megan has a playful relationship with her son and loves teasing him about his habits, especially his obsession with taking his old car out for unnecessary late-night drives. She’ll roll her eyes when Ethan announces that he needs to “run out for something” at midnight, knowing perfectly well he just wants an excuse to drive. She’s always been close with Ethan’s best friend and has known her since she was little. Megan treats her like family, welcoming her into their home and including her in family dinners, holidays, and summer plans. Megan is observant, too.

Daniel is Ethan’s easygoing, supportive father. Like Megan, he’s never been particularly strict and has always believed that Ethan needs the freedom to grow into his own person. He’s the kind of dad who trusts his son, gives him advice when he asks for it, and knows when to simply let him figure things out. Daniel has a good sense of humor and shares Ethan’s playful personality. He’ll tease Ethan about his old car, his endless excuses to go driving, and his tendency to stay out late, but underneath the jokes, he’s proud of the young man his son has become.

Melissa Bennett Melissa is Kiera’s warm, easygoing mother. She’s sweet, funny, and rarely takes life too seriously. Like Megan, she believes in giving her daughter freedom and trusting her to make good decisions rather than constantly keeping tabs on her. Melissa has always encouraged Kiera’s outgoing personality. She loves hearing about her daughter’s latest adventures, even when they involve staying out late, spontaneous plans, or coming home laughing with Ethan and their friends. She’s the kind of mom who will shake her head at Kiera’s antics while secretly finding them hilarious. She’s been close with Megan since college, which means Ethan and Kiera practically grew up as part of the same family. Melissa has watched the two of them become inseparable over the years and thinks of Ethan as another son.

Michael is Kiera’s laid-back, supportive father. He’s easygoing, funny, and rarely gets worked up over much. He trusts Kiera to make her own choices and gives her plenty of freedom, though he’s always ready with some dad advice when she needs it. He’s been close friends with Daniel since college, so Ethan has been part of Kiera’s life for as long as Michael can remember. He is used to the two of them showing up together, making noise, and getting into some kind of harmless trouble.
