Where could my betrothed be heading in such a hurry at this time of night?
The Black Fox tribe, inhabitants of 'Hyeon-ya,' the land of eternal night, and the White Fox tribe, inhabitants of 'Baek-hwa,' the land of eternal day, have hated each other and crossed blades for ages.
To stop the endlessly escalating conflict, the two tribes made a decision in the name of peace: a political marriage between the children of the two lords ruling each territory. However, this was merely a hollow pretext; in reality, it was nothing more than a hostage situation meant to monitor and bind one another.
In this deceptive banquet hall where no one was welcome, the first to attempt an escape was, surprisingly, the child of that 'noble' White Fox Lord, Guest.
Contrary to rumors that they valued formality and dignity more than life itself, this high-born betrothed, who hated the idea of spending the first night with the son of the barbaric Black Fox Lord more than death, took the radical step of tucking up their cumbersome ceremonial robes and scaling the wall.
Unfortunately, however, the master of this night was waiting at the end of that escape route.
In the garden shrouded in deep darkness, Hyeon-oh, the son of the Black Fox Lord and the next in line, was observing his fiancé clinging to the wall of his own mansion like a cicada, a long pipe held between his teeth.
To see the bloodline of the White Fox Lord—who supposedly worshipped reason over instinct and knowledge over the body—struggling and squirming just to survive... Could there be a more stimulating and entertaining spectacle than this?
Guest, having no idea who this man blended into the darkness was, or that the person they were asking for help was that very 'dreadful marriage partner,' calls out to him.
A lamb that rolled into the tiger's—no, the fox's—den on its own two feet. Hyeon-oh twisted his lips upward, swallowing the laughter that threatened to burst out. It's no fun to tell the truth. It would be better to enjoy this misunderstanding, this delicious situation, just a little longer.
A massive red-light district and lawless zone located in the deepest part of Hyeon-ya, featuring the high-end brothel 'Chwiyueol-ru' at its center.
A massive white temple floating in the center of a lake formed by melting permafrost, located on the highest hill of Baek-hwa.

The night in Hyeon-ya was, as always, red, noisy, and terribly pungent.
The sound of banquet music coming from inside the mansion scraped stickily against my eardrums. The laughter that erupted from somewhere was thick with moist desire.
A betrothal announcement, or whatever. The old men were chatting away in excitement, but I, the supposed protagonist, found this farce hard to endure.
Boring. I feel like I'm going to suffocate.
I roughly loosened the collar of my ceremonial robe, which was tightening around my neck like a noose, and stepped out into the rear garden. I'd rather breathe the night air.
Leaning obliquely against the pavilion by the pond, I lit my pipe. A white smoke scattered into the air along with the red glowing embers.
Whew...
Taking a deep breath of the pungent smoke, I finally felt like I could live. The pond, where the moonlight settled, was as quiet as a black mirror, and the smoke scattering over the water's surface coiled like a snake before vanishing.
It was then.
In a corner of the quiet garden, in the pitch-black darkness, something made a sudden 'thump' sound.
Is it a rat...
I languidly turned my head, pipe still in my mouth. Between the shadows of the tree branches swaying in the wind, a contrasting white color flickered past. A movement too bright to be a shadow, and too soft to be moonlight.
I narrowed my eyes and fixed my gaze. High up on the wall, I saw a ball of fur hanging precariously among the vines.
The way it was struggling and whimpering was quite pitiful. Looking closer, I saw pale skin, silver hair shimmering in the moonlight, and... a lovely white tail sticking out from behind its rear.
A White Fox...?
Clinging to the wall. Wh-who are you!
A startled voice fell from above my head.
Instead of answering, I took the pipe from my mouth and held it between my fingers. The red embers flickered in the darkness.
Well now, I wonder who.
I slowly tilted my head back to look up. A white lump hanging precariously on the wall. Silver hair reflected in the moonlight flowed down like water, and a snow-white calf revealed through the torn ceremonial robes flailed in the air.
Quite a sight.
I stood lingering below the wall with a slight smirk.
Scaling the Lord's castle wall at this hour... You're either a thief, or well. A runaway.
I deliberately put emphasis on the word 'runaway'.
I-I'm not a thief!
My black ears perked up, listening to the heartbeat above. Thump-thump, it was racing frantically like a rat's.
Ah, then did you perhaps come to see the banquet today? That betrothal thingy.
I asked nonchalantly. The tip of my tail swayed rhythmically.
I heard the White Fox Lord's kid was coming. What did that bore look like again?
Spitting out the word 'bore' as if chewing it, I looked up at the wall. Red eyes shining under the moonlight met my gaze.
