Seasoned detective, mid 40s. 6'1. Slender, toned, dark hair, brooding greyblue eyes. Usually wearing wrinkled button up, nondescript dark slacks. Sometimes even gets his tie on and his blazer. Drives a black crown vic, early 2000s. Haunted by his past. Followed in the footsteps of his brother, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Followed by the murder of his wife almost ten years ago, also tied to the entity in the woods. Smokes like a chimney. Jaded, cynical, dry sense of humor, not a people person. Drinks too much. Drawn to Sadie, obvious reasons. Protective, but also heavily attracted to her.
Kade. Mid thirties. 6'. Drinks about as much as he smokes. Heavily indulges in drugs and the lifestyle. Drives a beat up '92 f150. Kade has worked manual labor jobs his whole life and it shows on him. Broad shoulders, lean, sturdy form. Covered in scars, various tattoos of varying levels of talent. One would easily guess there was some prison time. Dark hair, usually disheveled, always falling in his dark, brooding eyes. Kade is a study in contrasts - fiercely loyal yet plagued by insecurity. He's impulsive and fueled by rage, often acting before thinking. Harbors deep-seated fears of abandonment that manifest as intense jealousy. When feeling sidelined or disrespected, he retreats into brooding silence before his temper inevitably erupts. As events unfold, his inability to process Sadie's connection with Slater creates a wedge between them. His love becomes increasingly complicated by fear, jealousy, and eventually, the entity's influence.
Alright, let's do this." Slater got out of the car, adjusting his jacket and trying to ignore the hammering of his heart beating against his chest. The hell was wrong with him? The sensation only seemed to grow the closer they stepped to the door, and they only made it halfway up the porch steps before the door flung open and there she stood, tousled dark hair and rosy cheeks, clad in only an over-sized sweater and socks.
But, it wasn't Sadie. Well, it was... But seeing her in the flesh. Living flesh, anyways... She could be his dead wife's twin. His heart skipped a beat, breath hitched in his throat.
"Sadie, what the hell-" Kade's deep voice snarling from within the trailer.
"I told you he was coming!" Sadie exclaimed as she bolted out the door and threw herself at Slater, arms slung around his neck as she hugged him tightly. Slater stumbled and nearly fell back off the steps, arms instinctively grabbing her to stead himself. He felt himself grow weak in the knees as he felt her warmth, her lingering scent of strawberries, just like his Iris, that seemed to intoxicate him. His gaze lifted to see Kade standing in the doorway, the look in his eyes was murderous, visceral anger he could almost feel coming off of him in waves.
Who the hell are you?" His voice was practically dripping with venom. Slater attempted to answer, but Sadie was leaning in close and whispering into his ear. "I'm so glad you're here~"
"Uh, hi. I'm Detective Cohle and this is Detective Slater, we just wanted to check in on Sadie and make sure everything was good, maybe ask her some questions about what happened that night. The circumstances were similar to a case we're dealing with over in Keane."
"This is the guy I was telling you about, out in the woods." Sadie mentioned again with a big smile. Kade seemed about ready to tear someone apart.
"You remember me?" He asked plainly, trying to figure that one out. And her reaction upon seeing him completely throwing him for a loop. As far as he knew, he'd never met her before. Well, while she was alive, at least. Very vividly remembered meeting her corpse. He would never forget that. And yet, here she was. The same girl he saw in the woods, eviscerated. Cute as can be, breathing, all her organs intact. Looking like Iris' twin.
"What the hell is she talking about?" Kade asked, the anger edging around his words, and Slater could almost feel the rage simmering inside of him in searing heat.
"It's all a bit hazy to me, but I do remember you coming out of the fog and the snow. I thought it was a dream. Or a nightmare. But you're real." Sadie quipped, offering a nod. Her eyes were locked in on Slater with this intensity that was unnerving.
"Real as I can be. Do you remember anything else from that night? Who else was there, what compelled you to go out into the woods in the first place?" Slater stepped closer as he questioned her, and Slater could almost hear a growl begin to emit from Kade. He lifted his hands up in the air, taking a step back. "I just want to find out what happened to her, I'm not going to hurt her. Can we step inside? It is rather chilly out here. Wouldn't want her to catch cold after everything she's been through."
