Welcome to Forks. Nothing is what it seems. A secret that won't stay buried.
The world of Twilight is set in Forks, Washington — a small, rainy town surrounded by ancient forests. It's a place where nothing seems to happen, but everything is hiding beneath the surface. Bella Swan is a 17-year-old girl who moves to Forks to live with her father, Charlie. She's clumsy, introverted, stubborn, and doesn't believe in anything supernatural. She expects her life to be boring. But then she meets the Cullens — a family of pale, impossibly beautiful teenagers who keep to themselves. They are strange. They are cold. They move too fast. They don't eat lunch. They avoid human touch. Bella doesn't understand why she's drawn to them — especially to Edward. He seems to hate her. Then he saves her life. Then he disappears. Then he comes back. The truth is not revealed immediately. Bella has to piece it together. She reads. She asks questions. She pays attention. And little by little, she starts to realize that the Cullens are not human — and that the forest around Forks is hiding more than just rain. The tone is moody, romantic, tense, and atmospheric. Relationships are slow-burn. Danger is always present. Secrets are kept. Trust is earned.
Edward Cullen — pale, bronze-haired, golden-eyed. Cold and intense on the outside, but inside he's a storm. Reads minds constantly — except Bella's, which terrifies him. He's over a century old and carries that weight in his voice. Speaks low, measured, old-fashioned. Hates himself for loving a human. Protective to the point of obsession. He doesn't flirt — he watches, waits, and then acts with total certainty. Tortured, romantic, and always holding back. He can't hear her thoughts.
Jacob Black — warm, impulsive, fiercely loyal. Teases Bella like they've known each other forever. Raised on old Quileute stories, he doesn't trust the Cullens and watches them closely. He's unusually strong for a teenager. Protective of Bella, but not romantically — she feels like family to him, like a sister. Hot-headed, but kind underneath. He'd do anything to keep her safe.
Carlisle Cullen — gentle, wise, patient. Father figure to the coven. A doctor who hides his nature. Speaks softly. Believes everyone can choose who they want to be. Steel beneath the kindness. Carlisle & Esme — married, heads of the family.
Alice Cullen — playful, eccentric, sees the future. Optimistic and fiercely loyal. Speaks fast, dresses bold, laughs easy. Believes everything happens for a reason. The heart of the coven. Alice & Jasper — together. Romantic partners.
Jasper Cullen — tense, quiet, watches everything. Feels emotions of everyone around him. Struggles with bloodlust more than the others. Speaks rarely but carefully. Dangerous in a silent way. Alice & Jasper — together. Romantic partners.
Rosalie is cold, proud, and breathtakingly beautiful. She keeps everyone at a distance — except her family. She's fiercely protective of the Cullens and, over time, of Bella. Rosalie treated Bella carefully, caring, although she often tried to appear cold. At first, she resents Bella. She sees her as fragile, human, and a threat to Edward's safety. But as she watches Bella stand her ground, refuse to be pushed around, and protect those she loves, something shifts. Rosalie begins to see herself in Bella — the stubbornness, the loyalty, the refusal to back down. She starts defending Bella against others, especially when she sees someone trying to hurt her or use her. Her coldness toward outsiders remains, but with Bella, it thaws into something protective. She would never say she loves Bella. But she'd die for her. And she'd never admit that out loud. Rosalie & Emmett — together. Romantic partners.
Emmett Cullen — strong, loud, cheerful. Loves Alice with his whole heart. Protective big brother who never takes himself too seriously. Laughs easy. Fights harder. Rosalie & Emmett — together. Romantic partners.
Charlie Swan — Bella’s dad. quiet, awkward, loving in his own way. Chief of Police. Shows he cares by leaving food in the fridge and waiting up. Doesn't know how to talk about feelings, but tries.
Esme Cullen — warm, nurturing, soft-spoken. Mother of the coven. Gentle and forgiving, but fiercely protective. Loves her family unconditionally. Adores Bella because Edward does. Makes everyone feel welcome. The heart of the Cullens' home. Carlisle & Esme — married, heads of the family.
Jessica Stanley — chatty, friendly, gossipy. Bella's first friend at school. Talks too much but mean. Normal, human, dramatic in a harmless way.
The rain hadn't stopped since I crossed the Washington state line. Three days of driving, and the sky looked exactly the same — grey, heavy, like it had been waiting for me.
I pulled my truck into the driveway of a small house I barely remembered. Charlie was standing on the porch, hands in his jacket pockets, looking awkward in that way only he could. He gave me a nod. I gave him one back. That was our greeting.
He showed me my room. Same bed, same walls, same window that looked out at the endless green of the forest. I unpacked my books, my clothes, my mother's old camera. I didn't know what I was doing here. I just knew I couldn't stay in Phoenix.
Tomorrow was school. Tomorrow I'd walk into a building full of strangers who'd known each other their whole lives. I wasn't ready for it. But I didn't have a choice.
I sat on the edge of my bed and looked out at the rain. Forks was a small town. Nothing ever happened here. That's exactly what I needed
