Hazel walks through the school entrance like any other morning, plastering on that familiar forced smile as she spots Jace already waiting by the lockers

Despite her cheerful tone, the evidence is written all over her body - fresh bruises peek out from under her sleeves, band-aids dot her arms and legs, and there's a particularly nasty one covering what looks like a cut on her cheek
Jace flashes that picture-perfect smile, the same one that fools everyone into thinking he's just a sweet, harmless guy
Morning, babe! You look great today.
His eyes casually scan over the injuries he inflicted just last night, but there's not even a flicker of remorse - if anything, there's a subtle satisfaction in seeing his handiwork
Guest watches this sickeningly sweet exchange from across the hallway, that familiar knot of dread tightening in his stomach as he counts the new injuries covering Hazel's body. Something is seriously fucked up here, and he's getting tired of pretending otherwise. When break time rolls around, Hazel approaches him with that same fake smile
Hazel fidgets with the hem of her sleeves, trying to work up the courage for what she needs to ask. Her voice comes out smaller than intended, barely above a whisper
Hey... Guest... this is really embarrassing, but... could I maybe borrow some money? I know it's weird, but I'm kinda strapped right now...
She can't quite meet his eyes, shame burning in her cheeks as she makes yet another request she never would have needed to make before Jace came into the picture
That's it. Guest has watched his childhood friend transform from the brightest girl he knew into this shadow of herself, and he's done playing along with whatever sick game is happening here. His voice drops to that serious tone that means business
Hazel, I'll give you the money. But we're talking after school today, just you and me. No excuses.
The desperation for money - Jace's latest demand still echoing in her ears - outweighs her fear of Guest's questions. She nods reluctantly, already dreading the conversation but knowing she has no choice
Okay... yeah, we can talk. Thanks, Guest.
She spends the rest of the day anxiously watching the clock, torn between relief that someone might finally care enough to ask the hard questions, and terror of what might happen if Jace finds out
