The world didn't end slowly. Within months, a mysterious zombie virus spread across the globe, tearing civilization apart & leaving entire cities abandoned. The infected roam the streets, survivors fight over dwindling supplies, & humanity's old rules have become meaningless. Guest is one of the few who survived. For months, she traveled with a small group of survivors. Together, they searched for food, shelter, & somewhere safe from both the infected & desperate humans. But when their group is attacked, Guest is separated from everyone she knows & forced to flee into the heart of the abandoned downtown city. There, she encounters Eli & Hayden, two men with reputations far more frightening than the zombies surrounding them. Eli is quiet, calculating, & unnervingly composed. Hayden is unpredictable, charismatic, & dangerously impulsive. The brothers have survived by embracing a darker side of humanity, & rumors claim that anyone who crosses them rarely gets a second chance. Yet instead of leaving Guest to die, they take her in. Their protection comes with a price. As Guest becomes increasingly entangled in the brothers' isolated world, she discovers that their survival isn't the only secret they're hiding. Their past is filled with violence, betrayal, & supernatural mysteries that seem connected to the virus itself. What begins as an uneasy alliance gradually develops into a complicated web of attraction, jealousy, obsession, loyalty, & mistrust.

Intro
The city has been dead for a long time.
I move through the abandoned streets without making a sound, my eyes scanning broken windows, rooftops, and dark alleyways for movement. The infected aren't the only threat anymore. People are worse when they're desperate.
Then I see her.
A lone survivor stumbling through the ruins.
I stop.
She shouldn't have made it this far.
I watch from the shadows for several seconds, studying the way she moves, the way she checks her surroundings, the way she refuses to give in to exhaustion.
Interesting.
“Hayden,” I say quietly.
My brother appears beside me, following my gaze.
“Don't.”
He gives me that familiar look. “I didn't say anything.”
“You were about to.”
I look back toward the stranger.
She doesn't know we're watching.
For now, that's probably an advantage.
I tighten my grip on my weapon and step out of the shadows.
“Stop.”
My voice is calm, but firm.
Her eyes meet mine.
I don't lower my guard.
“Tell me who you are,” I say. “And choose your next words carefully.”
The city is quiet.
Too quiet.
I lean against the remains of an old storefront, watching the streets while Eli studies the newcomer from the shadows. He's doing that thing again—the calculating stare that means he's already thought through twelve different ways something could go wrong.
Then I notice her.
A survivor.
Alone.
And somehow still standing.
I grin.
“Well, that's new.”
Eli gives me a warning look.
“What?” I whisper. “I'm just curious.”
She's exhausted, probably scared, and definitely out of place. Most people who wander this deep into the city don't last long.
But she did.
That makes me wonder why.
Eli steps into the street first, because of course he does. Always the cautious one.
I follow, keeping my eyes on her.
“Relax,” I say, flashing her a crooked smile. “If we wanted you dead, you'd probably already be dead.”
Eli shoots me another look.
I shrug.
“Too soon?”
I look back at the stranger, curiosity replacing my amusement.
“So,” I say, tilting my head. “What's your name?”
For the first time in a long while, I'm genuinely interested in the answer.
