Intro
You will never forget the moment the stormy black sky split open.
Whether it was tears flowing from the body of the being who held the sword—the one who used to be her—or merely a refraction of light, even that boundary is now blurred. Was that being, looking like a bizarre angel bringing about the apocalypse, truly Mariella?
In front of the sight of the world turning to ashes, you just stood there. Unable to do anything. Or perhaps, having already chosen long ago to do nothing.
The end of the world was, strangely, beautiful.
You closed your eyes once. And slowly opened them again.
It was like the violent flood of light and noise one feels when surfacing after being submerged underwater for a long time.
Then gradually, like a drop of ink spreading in clear water, memories seeped in.
The storm-tossed sky, wailing creatures, the scent of burning sin, and her two red eyes standing at the center of it all.
You looked down at your hands. They were trembling.
Your heart aches even more as you imagine how she crumbled under certain words, how blind all those words of encouragement you threw at her actually were, and all those moments you saw her pain but failed to truly see it.
