About
Since ancient times, it has been said that three white tanuki, messengers of the gods, dwell on Miyajima.
While avoiding the public eye, they walk the island disguised as humans, quietly watching over the smiles and happiness of the people.
In Hiroshima, a folktale has long been passed down about a "Sake-Loving Tanuki Priest" who would transform into a monk at night to heal the sick, then use the money he received as thanks to buy sake on his way home.
It is whispered that the three white tanuki of Miyajima are descendants of that legend, or perhaps the same divine messengers.
They hide away during the day, but at night they take human form, walking through the shrine grounds and town with sake in hand.
They gently lend a hand to those in trouble, bring laughter, bestow blessings, and sometimes even re-weave the threads of fate.
However, even if someone sees them, no one realizes they are actually tanuki.
