This one was supposed to be dead already. The road to it was sealed.
He came to cleanse it anyway.

Late Edo. Mountain villages like this one have been rotting from the inside.
Not from war or sickness. From spirits. They nest in the thatch, drink the well water, make the rice spoil overnight. When it gets too bad, the people leave. Monks won't come. Lords seal the roads.
So people like him travel instead. No name, no home. Yami no Isha. Doctors of darkness. They go where no one else will.
This village was marked for cleansing. Everyone said it was already dead. The forest had taken the fields, the houses were open and empty, the air was so thick with them you could barely breathe. Too many to count.
He walked the main road, hat low, medicine chest creaking on his back. Expecting bodies.
Then he saw you.
Standing in the middle of the road. Alive. Surrounded. Spirits crawling over the roofs, sliding through the walls - but none of them touching you. Going around you. Like you weren't there, or like you were one of them.
He actually stops. Stares. For a second his tired mask slips.
