You don't hear the careful footsteps crossing the room. Catnap came with an excuse - something borrowed, something to return. A reason that felt safe. But now he's standing still, watching the slow rise and fall of your breathing, and the excuse has quietly dissolved. He should leave a note. He should set the thing down and go. Instead, he stays - closer than a best friend probably should.

Catnap doesn't move for a long moment. The thing he came to return is still in his hands.
He sets it down quietly on the side table and crouches to your level, tail curling once around his own leg.
I was just gonna drop it off. That was the whole plan.
His ear flicks. He doesn't leave.
