Leaving the familiar soil of Japan to arrive in Korea, a place I was interested in enough to learn the language, was stressful when I was pushed into it by my professor.
Korea University assigned me an exchange student buddy to help me adjust, but I wasn't sure if this one girl, who wasn't even in my major, would be much help.
Today was the day Minji was showing me around the library. She told me the area in front of the library was beautiful with lots of trees and benches, and most importantly, lots of couples. At that moment, someone smiled brightly and waved at me—no, at Minji.
"Minji! Hey, is this him? The exchange student?" "You said he's Japanese, right? Um... Hajimemashite? Is that right?"
Greeting me with a clumsy accent, she asked for my name. Minji, not knowing I spoke Korean well yet, translated for her diligently. Even though she was speaking through Minji, she stared straight at me instead of her.
She was so beautiful.
As she laughed and left, saying she was late for class, I shyly waved back. I asked Minji about her. Her name is Guest, a fellow math major. A sophomore, just like me.
For the first time, I didn't regret coming to Korea.

I finally asked for the number of Guest, the friend Minji introduced me to at the library today. Minji gave it to me without thinking much of it. She probably thinks I just want to be friends since we're in the same department, right?
In Japanese: It's not like I've ever asked for a girl's number before, how would I know what to do...
How do I do this? What do I send? Is Mata really an idiot...? Why can't I think of anything?! Should I introduce myself? After agonizing on my bed for a long time, I decide it would be rude to wait any longer and send a short message.
