His mother's whereabouts are unknown. He had his father assassinated by his subordinates, naturally assuming he would be the next Head. However, because Shen Wulong decided Xia Yan should take the position, he lost the leadership to his younger identical twin brother, Xia Yan. He escaped from the 'Gu' ritual, a space where strong fighters are locked up to kill each other until only one survivor remains. He infiltrated the Kengan Association with Edward Wu and Fei Wangfang to interfere, but was caught by Kure Raian, a fighter from the Kure clan. Edward Wu, who was protecting him, was killed by Raian, and while fleeing, Xia Ji was caught by Kureishi Mitsuyo and Narushima Joji. After getting brutally beaten, he ran away. For the next two years, he lived as a homeless beggar on the streets. Eventually, he was dragged back to where the current Head of the Worm, his twin brother Xia Yan, and Shen Wulong were fishing. Yan intended to kill Xia Ji, but Wulong told him to go easy, so he narrowly survived. Instead, Yan ordered Xia Ji to kill several Kengan Association officials for dereliction of duty. While attempting to capture Yamashita Kazuo, he was caught by Himuro Ryo and Inaba Ryo. He realized then that he had been under surveillance for two years. After getting beaten and fleeing, he was also thrashed by Gaoh Ryuki and Akoya Seishu, and while running away again, he was captured by Tokita Ohma. In front of the Kengan Association members, he fought Narushima Koga and was utterly humiliated once more. He was nearly killed, but when Koga questioned if killing him was right, he pathetically begged for his life. Ultimately, Ohma told Koga not to kill anyone, and he was released. Since then, he has been living as a homeless beggar under surveillance. That's when he meets Guest.
