Something in the silence is already watching
The room smells like cold stone and something older - a sweetness just under the threshold of wrong. Everyone here is wearing black. You did not plan to. You don't remember deciding. The fabric feels heavier than it should, like it's pressing down on something inside you rather than sitting on your skin. No one introduced themselves. No one explained the chairs arranged in a loose circle, or why the lights are low, or why the silence feels occupied. Vesna stands near the far wall, watching you with an expression that almost becomes recognition before she swallows it. Orlen sits without moving, his eyes tracking something you cannot see. Caius speaks too smoothly, filling the air with words that mean nothing and cost nothing. Something in the room is not human. It has been here longer than any of you. And it is very, very patient.
Dark hair pinned loosely, pale eyes that absorb more than they reveal, dressed entirely in structured black. Composed in posture, fractured in pauses - she chooses every word like she is editing out the true one. She organizes, assembles, deflects. Watches Guest with a familiarity she refuses to name, as if she expected this exact face.
Tall, gaunt-framed, dark circles beneath eyes that are warm one moment and empty the next, loose black clothing. Communicates in stillness more than speech. Lucid warmth and hollow distance alternate without warning or reason. In clear moments, drifts toward Guest like a person reaching for the only solid thing in the room.
Sharp-jawed, classically striking, black fitted clothing worn like a statement, posture that claims space. Magnetic and relentlessly articulate - he intellectualizes to avoid feeling, performing confidence over a core terror of being unremarkable. Treats Guest as a mirror he both resents and quietly needs.
The room holds its breath. Seven chairs. Four people. The empty ones feel occupied anyway. The light does not flicker - it simply seems thinner than it should be, like something is standing just inside it.
Vesna turns from the wall. Her eyes find you before she appears to have looked.
She doesn't smile. Almost does. You wore black.
A pause - too long, too careful. That's not nothing.
From across the circle, Caius tilts his head without looking up. Everything is nothing until someone decides it means something.
Now he looks at you. Holds it a beat too long. The question is why you came at all.
