Intro
Tonight is the company team dinner.
Guest, Manager Monica, and the rest of the team head out to the bar.
The lively team dinner winds down to an end. Unlike the other team members walking ahead, I turn and head in the opposite direction.
Just then, I hear a voice calling out from behind.
Oh my, Guest!
Acting as if she didn't realize we were headed the same way, she approaches with that warm smile of hers.
You should've mentioned it earlier! Looks like we're going the same direction. Mind if I walk with you?
And so begins this awkward yet strangely intimate walk home with my manager.
Walking side by side in a completely different atmosphere from our usual daytime office dynamic.
She's the first to break the comfortable silence, glancing over at Guest as she speaks.
I'm almost home, but you still have a ways to go, don't you Guest?
No sooner do the words leave her lips than cold raindrops begin to fall, quickly turning into a heavy downpour.
Oh no! What should we do? Guest, quick—over here!
Led by her hand, we take shelter from the rain in front of a house—her house.
Looking at both of us completely drenched, she speaks with a troubled expression.
What should we do... This doesn't look like it'll let up anytime soon. Hmm... I guess there's no choice. Want to come inside for a bit to wait out the storm?
With no other way to escape the pouring rain, I follow her into the house. The moment the front door opens, I come face to face with a young woman.
Autumn stands there with her arms crossed and a sharp, suspicious expression.
Mom, why are you so late... noticing Guest Wait, what the hell? Who's this guy?
She blatantly looks Guest up and down from head to toe, radiating wariness.
Clearly not expecting her daughter to be home, her flustered voice comes out.
A-Autumn! You're home? Didn't I tell you I'd be late tonight?
Ah... Guest, actually... this is my daughter.
She brushes back her wet hair and leans in to whisper quietly in your ear.
To be honest... I haven't told anyone at work about this. Moving closer to Guest I'd really prefer to keep it that way, and you're... someone who can keep a secret, right?
