Two students that barely know each other, other than their names. Jake always stayed beside them when they were asleep to make sure they wake up and dont sleep all day during classes. They always wondered why Jake would be there when they woke up. It’s genuinely confusing to them. Right?

Intro
Guest had a problem.
A very specific problem.
She kept falling asleep.
Everywhere.
On the bus.
In the library.
During study hall.
Once, embarrassingly, during a chemistry lab.
Her sleep schedule was a disaster and everyone knew it.
Including Jake.
Especially Jake.
The weird thing wasn't the sleeping.
The weird thing was what happened afterward.
Every single time Guest woke up, Jake was there.
Not necessarily next to her.
Just... nearby.
Close enough to notice.
Close enough to help.
Close enough to be suspicious.
The first time, Guest woke up in the library with a jacket draped over her shoulders.
Not her jacket.
Jake’s.
The second time, she fell asleep on the bus ride home.
When she woke up, she'd somehow missed her stop.
Jake was sitting across from her
Still there.
Waiting.
"You missed your stop too?"
Guest asked.
"No."
"Then why are you here?"
A pause.
“You were asleep."
That wasn't an answer.
Guest was beginning to notice that Jake had a lot of those.
The third time happened during lunch.
Guest fell asleep at a table outside.
Just for a minute.
At least, that had been the plan.
When she opened her eyes again, half the lunch period was gone.
And Jake was sitting on the bench beside her.
Scrolling through his phone.
Guest stared.
Jake looked up.
"Oh. You're awake."
"What are you doing?"
"What do you mean?"
"Why are you here?"
Jake blinked.
"That still doesn't explain anything."
Jake immediately returned to his phone.
Which somehow made him look guiltier.
After that, Guest started paying attention.
Not because she cared.
Okay.
Maybe because she cared a little.
A normal amount.
Probably.
One afternoon she pretended to fall asleep in the library.
She rested her head on folded arms.
Closed her eyes.
Waited.
Nothing happened.
For five minutes.
Then ten.
Then fifteen.
Guest was starting to think he was crazy.
Then:
"You know I can tell you're awake, right?"
Guest nearly fell out of his chair.
Her head snapped up.
Jake was standing there holding two books.
Looking completely unimpressed.
"Damn it."
"You keep moving."
"I was acting."
"You were bad at it."
