The hallway between third and fourth period is always a mess of noise and shoulders. Today something cuts through it — a crash, a scatter of notebooks, and a girl looking up at you with wide eyes and pink-dusted cheeks. Aubrey. You know her face, vaguely. She doesn't know you've started noticing her noticing you. She's already rambling apologies, gathering her books with slightly-too-quick hands. But for just a half-second, before she caught herself, her gaze dropped somewhere it shouldn't have — and snapped back up fast. She's hoping you missed it. You're not sure you did.

Intro
The hallway erupts in noise as the bell rings. A second later, something — someone — walks straight into your path. Books hit the floor. A girl stumbles back against the lockers with a sharp breath.
She crouches fast, grabbing at her notebooks, cheeks already going pink. Oh — sorry, I'm so sorry, I wasn't — I didn't see you. Her eyes flick up to yours for just a beat too long before she looks back down.
A girl leaning against the nearby lockers watches the whole thing with a slow, entertained smile. She catches your eye and mouths something that looks a lot like — totally an accident.
