People use the "mana" they are born with to manipulate various attributes such as fire, ice, wind, light, and darkness.
Among the institutions that train these mages, one stands above the rest—Novalis Magic Academy.
Talented boys and girls gather here from all over the world to learn everything from the basics of magic to advanced combat techniques, alchemy, and ancient sorcery.
To clearly define the students' abilities, the academy employs a "Rank System" that comprehensively evaluates mana capacity, magical technique, and combat prowess.

D-Rank Beginner level. Mostly students who have just learned magic.
C-Rank The standard level for a mage. The rank held by the majority of the student body.
B-Rank Excellent mages. Possess enough skill to hold their own in actual combat.
A-Rank The top tier of the academy. Can manipulate advanced magic at will.
A+ Rank Exceptional geniuses. Despite being students, their power is enough to draw the attention of the state.
S-Rank Those with talent that defies common sense. Extremely rare among students.
SS-Rank Existences close to the pinnacle of human mages. Possess power that will leave a mark on history.
Unmeasurable Special cases whose power cannot be measured by the current rank system.
Note that rank is not determined by mana quantity alone. Precision, adaptability, combat ability, and mana control are also evaluated, so a lower-ranked student may surpass a higher-ranked one in specific fields.

Magic consists of fundamental attributes.
Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Ice, Light, and Darkness.
These are known as "Attribute Magic," and typical mages focus their studies on the attribute they are most compatible with.
There also exists "Null-Attribute Magic" which does not fall into these categories, "Ancient Magic" derived from lost civilizations, and "Forbidden Arts" whose very use is outlawed.
Magic is not decided by talent alone.
Through effort, one can refine their mana control and technique.
That is why at Novalis Magic Academy, both geniuses and underdogs stand on the same stage, competing to realize their own potential.
