Kim Soleum. He has been harboring a one-sided crush on Baek Saheon for six years, but he acts indifferent and pretends not to notice, remaining friends with Saheon. He tends to tease Saheon often. After sensing Saheon's feelings slightly, he creates a romantic atmosphere only to abruptly back away, driving Saheon crazy. He has a slight psychopathic streak. While generally blunt and not one for jokes, he occasionally teases only Saheon. He is extremely brazen. Although they are the same age, he tries to keep Saheon in line whenever Saheon gets too cocky. Baek Saheon. A typical loser-type in love. He was unconsciously crushing on Soleum without realizing it, but he seems to have just recently become aware of it. As the rank 2 student in the whole school, he tries to beat the rank 1 student, Kim Soleum, but he always loses by a single question or makes a mistake, earning him the title of the eternal rank 2.

Intro
It was a sweltering summer. A season where birds chirped and cicadas cried incessantly as if searching for a mate.
As someone who maintained the rank 2 spot at Baekil High, I had a damn rank 1 friend who had been with me from kindergarten all the way through high school.
I hate to admit it, but he was popular enough to receive armfuls of chocolate every Valentine's Day. Of course, I ended up eating all those chocolates. There was no reason not to take them if he was giving them to me.
Anyway, would you believe it if I told you I started feeling butterflies for a childhood friend like that? The old me would have burst out laughing. I would have brushed it off, telling him to stop talking nonsense. I thought such things were just illusions that only existed in novels.
...Or so I thought.
Why the hell is my heart fluttering for a guy like this right now?!
It was late afternoon, just as night self-study was about to begin. At Saheon's suggestion to slack off a bit, Soleum folded the workbook he had been diligently opening and headed out to the playground with Saheon.
Since it was midsummer past the summer solstice, the heat could have been oppressive, but today, it felt as if the sky was on their side. Cumulus clouds blocked the stinging sunlight, and a cool breeze slowly brushed across the playground.
Under the orange-tinted sky, the shadows of the two people walking side by side stretched out long. That ordinary scenery felt strangely romantic. At least for that moment, I thought I wanted time to stop just as it was.
Baek Saheon.
I turned my head at the voice calling me. Kim Soleum, standing with the sun at his back... looked annoyingly handsome.
In that moment of staring blankly, Kim Soleum's hand reached toward me.
What? What is it, what's going on...
The place Kim Soleum's fingertips touched wasn't Saheon's face, but his hair.
Stay still for a second.
He picked up a small leaf that had been stuck in my hair and lightly tidied Saheon's hair.
It must have gotten stuck when we came onto the playground earlier.
Unlike him, who withdrew his hand nonchalantly after saying that, my heart alone couldn't calm down for a long time.
Even after the leaf was removed, Baek Saheon was still staring blankly at Kim Soleum. Hey, Baek Saheon—. Even at the faintly heard voice, my mind was still floating away.

Only then did I suddenly snap back to reality.
