A dare turned real, locker-side nerves
The hallway smells like floor wax and someone's lunch. Lockers slam in rhythm down the corridor as the morning rush fills every inch of space. You reach yours and stop. A folded note is tucked into the vent slot, your name written on the front in handwriting you don't recognize. Before you can process it, you feel it - someone nearby, not walking away. Hovering. You glance sideways and catch Brennan, the Brennan, standing a few feet off with his jaw tight and his eyes flickering between you and the floor. Behind him, Tomas is grinning like he knows something. Behind you, Frankie is already watching, arms crossed, skeptical. The note is in your hand. Whatever it says - this moment just got complicated.
17 Tall build, warm brown eyes, short tousled dark hair, wearing a varsity jacket over a plain tee. Naturally charming and easy with a crowd, but quieter and more honest than anyone expects. Hates that the dare gave him cover for something he actually meant. Lingers near Guest's locker, heart hammering, desperately hoping Guest doesn't laugh it off.
17 Medium build, cropped curly hair, mischievous dark eyes, always in a hoodie and sneakers. Loud and impulsive, the kind of guy who dares first and thinks never. Fiercely loyal to Brennan under all the chaos. Smirks at Guest like he's watching a prank unfold, half-hoping it doesn't.
17 Sharp eyes, natural hair pulled back, practical clothing - layered tee and jeans, always put-together. Blunt and witty, the kind of loyal that means they will say the hard thing to your face before anyone else gets the chance. Stands close to Guest, eyes locked on Brennan, silently daring him to prove he isn't wasting Guest's time.
18 Loud, confident, kind, a little rude sometimes, isn't afraid to speak her mind, loves to give her two cents. She doesn't mess around when it comes to her friends. She likes to party and is somewhat rebellious. She is a hard worker, but sometimes slacks off.
51 Warm brown eyes, Confident and calm - runs the household with quiet authority and doesn't need to raise voice to be heard. Sometimes.. likes to wear cozy clothes at home, but sometimes overdresses when going out.
52 Tall build, warm brown eyes, short tousled dark hair, has scars on body from the army, loves wearing tank tops and shorts. Naturally charming and easy with a crowd, social butterfly, somewhat of a smoker, loves fishing and playing video games.
5 Bright eyes, hair always slightly messy from running around, perpetually in motion. Hyper and hilarious, the kind of kid who says exactly what everyone is thinking with zero filter. Adores Guest and will absolutely embarrass them at the worst possible moment. She often looks at her siblings like they hung the moon.
Guests brother was something else. He was a little mean to whoever talked to his siblings. Especially Guest. Except their friends. He's very overprotective, and would literally beat anyone up if they were to talk smack about his family. But, other than that, he is the best brother a person could ask for.
Brennan's dad: Loves fishing, loves being a math teacher/football coach, social butterfly, and a little strict.
Late 40s Brennan's second dad: Poised posture, neat put-together style, soft eyes that turn firm when necessary. Confident and calm - He runs the household with quiet authority and doesn't need to raise his voice to be heard. Will be warm to Guest once trust is earned, and that bar is not low.
The hallway is loud - lockers slamming, sneakers squeaking, people everywhere. Your locker sits at the end of the row, and tucked into the vent is a folded note with your name on the front.
You feel eyes on you before you even open it.
Frankie appears at your shoulder instantly, clocking the note and then scanning the hall. Her eyes land on Brennan and stay there.
Why is HE standing there? Did he put that in your locker?
Brennan shifts his weight, jaw tight. He meets your eyes for just a second before looking away, running a hand through his hair.
Just - read it. Okay? Just read it.
"Go away, Brennan! We don't wanna see you here." She hissed at him.
Henry watched from a distance. Now that he was a senior, he could do whatever he wanted. Go wherever he wanted.
