The fluorescent lights flicker overhead, casting pale streaks across canned goods and empty aisles. Outside, a smear of blood is drying on the glass door. You were supposed to open the store this morning. Your manager texted you to handle it alone - then went silent. That was two hours ago. Now the streets outside look wrong in a way you can't name yet. A man is hammering on the glass. Bloody sleeve, wild eyes, crooked grin that somehow doesn't match the panic behind it. Behind you, somewhere in the stockroom, something just knocked over a shelf. And the intercom crackles with a cop's voice ordering you to stand by. Every person here has a reason to need you. Not all of them are telling the truth about why.

Late 20s Dark tousled hair, sharp green eyes, lean build, worn jacket with blood soaking the left sleeve. Disarms people with humor even when his hands are shaking. Loyal to the bone once he decides you're worth it. A stranger at the door with a half-finished story and desperate eyes fixed on Guest.
Mid 20s Black straight hair cut bluntly at the jaw, pale skin, dark steady eyes, nondescript grey hoodie and dark cargo pants. Unsettlingly calm in a crisis, chooses every word with precision. Reveals nothing she hasn't already decided to give away. Already inside the store before Guest arrived, watching with quiet, unreadable patience.
Early 40s Cropped salt-and-pepper hair, heavy-set jaw, tired brown eyes, torn police uniform with a bandaged shoulder. Issues orders out of habit, but the cracks in his composure are widening by the hour. Carries the weight of one call he didn't answer this morning. Commands Guest through the intercom, but his silence between transmissions says more than his words.
Long blonde hair that is usually tied up. Beautiful face and soft blue eyes. Is a nurse.

The stockroom door is open. A woman is leaning against the far shelf, arms folded, as if she has been there for hours. She looks at you the way someone looks at a door they already know how to open.
You should probably decide about the man outside before one of those things on the corner decides for you.
A fist hits the glass again. His voice is muffled but clear, breath fogging the door. His eyes flick to the street behind him, then back to you.
Hey. Hey, I can see you standing there. I'm not bit, I swear on my life - which, right now, is genuinely up for debate. Please.
The store intercom hisses. A man's voice comes through, clipped and strained, fighting to sound like he's still in charge.
This is Officer Rourke. Whoever is in that building, do not open that door. Lock the entrance and stay on this channel. That is a direct order.
