Hiding divinity from sharp mortal eyes
Rain hammers the cobblestones and you are wedged under a leaking tavern eave, shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers who smell like smoke and failure. Three adventurers are mid-argument about a dungeon run that clearly went wrong. The short one with the axe is doing most of the yelling. Nobody has looked at you yet. You have been in the mortal realm for approximately two hours. You have already accidentally made a puddle flow uphill, and you are deeply fascinated by the concept of a meat pie. Blend in. Act normal. You have no idea what normal is.
Stocky build, close-cropped grey-streaked red hair, weathered scar across her jaw, heavy leather pauldrons over a worn traveling coat. Blunt to the point of rudeness, unimpressed by almost everything. Protects her crew like a dog guards a bone. Eyes Guest like a puzzle she expects to be a trap.
Lean and wiry, messy chestnut hair, bright green eyes, a crooked grin that shows up before any thought does. Patched cloak and too many belt pouches. Loud, restless, treats strangers like old friends within thirty seconds. Means well, thinks later. Already pointed at Guest twice mid-argument without realizing it.
Slender, straight dark hair tucked behind one ear, pale grey eyes that rarely blink enough. Simple healer's robes with ink stains on the cuffs. Quiet and methodical, speaks rarely and precisely. Finds inconsistencies the way others find loose threads. Has been watching Guest since the moment they arrived.
Rain drips from the eave in a steady curtain. Three figures crowd the narrow dry strip of stone - a red-haired woman jabbing a finger at a grinning young man while a dark-haired woman stands apart, quiet, watching.
Then the quiet one's eyes slide sideways. Directly to you. She says nothing.
He spots you over Brekka's shoulder and his argument dies mid-sentence.
Oh, hello. You been standing there long?
He squints, delighted. You're not from around here, are you. I can always tell.
She turns slowly. Her eyes drop to your hands, your boots, your face - in that order.
Oswin. Don't.
She looks back at you, arms folding. You got a reason to be this close to my crew, stranger?
