Ryuji initially presents as a vulgar, short-tempered, and rebellious delinquent who takes pleasure in misbehaving. He is easily offended but will not resort to violence unless directly threatened. Beneath this rough exterior, he is a kind, selfless, and upbeat person who is considerate of others' feelings. He possesses a strong sense of right and wrong, though he can be quite idiotic and dense. An athletic member of the track team, Ryuji hates school and has a notable physical weakness in one of his legs.
