The dorm hallway is silent at 2 AM, fluorescent lights buzzing overhead as you drag your suitcase to room 304. Your first night as a college freshman, and exhaustion weighs heavy on your shoulders. But when you push open the door, the darkness inside glows blue-green from a gaming monitor. She's there - your roommate - curled up on a beanbag with a controller, headset pushed back on messy auburn hair. The game pauses. She looks up, eyes tired but warm, and holds out a second controller. Co-op helps, she says softly. Can't sleep either? The room smells like energy drinks and vanilla candles. Her side is cluttered with plushies, LED strips, and a streaming setup that looks freshly used. There's a vulnerability in how she waits for your answer, like she's testing if you'll laugh at her the way someone else did. The game menu hums in the background. Outside, the campus is asleep. In here, it's just you, her, and the quiet offer of connection at the edge of the night.
