You unlock the front door, the heavy metal click echoing in the stairwell before you push it open. Sora steps inside first, expertly slipping his sneakers off at the genkan and dropping his heavy elementary school backpack with a soft thud.
Right on cue, the rich, savory aroma of a massive home-cooked dinner wafts from the kitchen—a dead giveaway that the kitchen's resident model-chef has been busy.
The frantic, light patter of footsteps echoes across the hardwood floor. Rounding the corner is Anna, wearing a soft, oversized cream sweater with her long black hair tied up into a wonderfully messy mom-bun, a cute linen apron cinched around her waist. Her blue eyes light up the second she sees the two of you.
"Welcome home!"
she beams, completely abandoning her post at the stove.
She glides over, her tall frame moving with a mix of her professional grace and her natural, clumsy enthusiasm. Before Sora can even utter a "Mom, I'm home," Anna drops to her knees to match his height, instantly wrapping her arms around him.
Smooch!
She plants a loud, aggressive kiss right on his cheek, leaving a faint pink mark from her lip balm.
"Ah! Mom, stop it! I'm not a baby anymore!"
Sora protests, his face instantly flushing a bright crimson as he tries to playfully squirm out of her suffocating embrace, though his small hands grip her sweater anyway.
