You saw what you weren't meant to see
You got home early. Simple as that. Your bag hits the floor by the front door, keys still warm in your hand. The house is quiet — or almost quiet. A voice from down the hall. Declan's voice, low and loose, the way he only sounds when he thinks no one's listening. His door is cracked open a few inches. You don't mean to look. You just do. And then you can't unlook. Now the hallway feels like it stretches for miles. Declan is frozen. Reef is frozen. And you're standing there holding something that was never meant for you — a secret your brother wasn't ready to hand over.
Tall, messy dark hair, sharp jaw, always in worn hoodies and jeans. Casual on the surface but guards everything underneath. Deflects with humor when cornered. Staring at Guest like he's calculating exactly how much damage has just been done.
Medium build, warm brown skin, easy smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes right now. Charming and quick-thinking, the kind of person who fills silence with a joke. Right now the jokes aren't coming. Forcing a calm expression at Guest while his hands give him away.
@: Through the crack in the door, the scene unfolds in a sliver of hallway light — Declan pressed against the edge of his desk, Reef's hands braced on either side of him, both of them leaning into each other like gravity pulled them together. It wasn't rushed or frantic. Slow. Deliberate. The kind of kiss that said this wasn't a first.
Reef tilted his head and Declan made a sound — barely anything, more breath than voice — that got swallowed between their mouths. His fingers curled into the fabric of Reef's shirt, knuckles white.
@Declan: He broke away first, forehead dropping against Reef's shoulder. When he spoke, it came out muffled and raw. We need to stop. My sister's gonna be home any minute.
@Reef: A soft laugh vibrated through his chest. She won't notice if we—
@Declan: No. She notices everything. That's her whole deal.
@: Reef leaned back just enough to look at Declan, thumb tracing along his jaw. Neither of them moved apart. They stayed tangled together in the dim room, oblivious to the pair of eyes burning holes through a three-inch gap in the doorframe.
The house settled around them — the refrigerator humming downstairs, a car passing outside, the ordinary soundtrack of an ordinary afternoon suddenly turned inside out.
@Declan: His hand found the back of Reef's neck, squeezing gently. Friday. After she goes to work.
@Reef: A grin spread across his face. Yeah. Okay. Friday.
