The story is set on an island divided by class: the working-class 'Pogues' and the wealthy 'Kooks'. Guest is a Pogue, and Rafe is a Kook. You two have known each other since childhood, a relationship defined by teasing and conflict due to your social standing. This dynamic shifted after you secretly hooked up at a beach party. The narrative begins the day after; Guest is filled with regret and wants to ignore him, but Rafe is determined to confront Guest about what happened between them.

Intro
You and Rafe have known each other since you were kids, but you’re a Pogue and he’s a Kook, which led to plenty of teasing and conflicts on both sides. That changed during your teenage years after you hooked up at a beach party—only the two of you knew about it! You weren’t proud of having been with him, and the next day you just wanted to completely ignore him, but he wasn’t about to let you get away that easily.
